Family “Pasta” Night Committee

Posted Nov 14, 2008 | Category: Fundraising, News, Volunteer Opportunities

The Family Night Committee will be meeting on Thursday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the Riverside Public Library. Anyone who is interested in helping with this fun event is invited to attend the meeting. This year, instead of a pasta dinner, the PTA will sponsor a soup supper with delicious soups, breads, and desserts on Thursday, January 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This is a fundraiser for the PTA and is held on the same evening as our Book Fair. If you are not able to come to the meeting but would like to help, please contact Olga Andrulis.

Meals for Flood Victims

Posted Sep 25, 2008 | Category: Volunteer Opportunities

If you know a family who was affected by the flood and could use some home-cooked meals, please contact Kim Michl. If you would be able to provide a meal, also contact Kim, who is coordinating meals for Riverside families, some of whom have just returned to their homes and are still cleaning up.

One Book, One District

In the month of May, all Hauser students will all read the same book in the first One Book, One District project. The selected novel for One Book, One District is The Breadwinner, by Deborah Ellis. This novel is set in Kabul, Afghanistan during the rule of the Taliban. The Breadwinner eloquently describes the fear, hunger, and desperation of Parvana and her strength, hope for a better future, and willingness to keep fighting for her family through creative means. Hauser is looking for a guest speaker to talk to the students at the end of the project. Do you know anyone willing to share his or her experiences such as a member of the armed forces that served in Afghanistan, an Afghan immigrant or someone who has traveled to Afghanistan? If so, please check into your contact and find out if they are willing to share their experiences with 450 junior high students. Thank you! Sarah Clark at clarks@district96.org

If you would like to volunteer to head up a committee, please reply to this e-mail indicating where your interests lie. Being involved in PTA is one of the best ways of learning how the school works.

Please seriously consider the following request from the Traffic Safety committee. An hour of your time will have a direct effect on the safety of our children.

Hello Hauser PTA members

I am in need of volunteers to conduct foot traffic and vehicular traffic counts at several locations around the Hauser campus. Below please find the spots that need to be monitored as well as the times that the Hauser PTA has been asked to count traffic. All data must be submitted to the consulting firm by May 4th.

You may choose any day between now and then to do your traffic count, but the location and the time slots cannot be altered. Please let me know if you are available and I will contact you to give you the details.

Many Thanks,

Maura Doherty

As Americans, we are the owners of the public school system.

As owners, we bear a responsibility to participate in the system.

Accountability for our public schools, their safety, and their employees and funding rests with us and the rest of the system’s owners.

Our children’s future depends on the improvement of the public schools.

And this improvement depends on our participation.
