PTA Meeting Minutes for November 2007

President Cathy Louthen called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
Thank you to Pam Liska for the refreshments.

Principal’s Report – Leslie Berman
*Thanked PTA for the raised flowerbeds.
*Donations collected at the door during the fall play will provide a new backdrop to be used for future plays.
The current backdrop has been painted over several times and is getting worn out.
*Honor Roll recognition: The student’s names will be posted in the paper and at school. The Honor Roll breakfast will be the morning of December 5th. Looking to replace the “My child is on the Honor Roll” bumper sticker with something that reflects school pride and doesn’t need to be placed on a bumper.
*Introduced three teachers from the 7th grade blue team who, along with students, gave a sample of what they are currently working on in Math, Science, and Language Arts.

Superintendent’s Report – Jon Lamberson
*Passed out enrollment report. Hauser’s enrollment for next year will be up 6% due to size of current 5th grade class.
*Long term enrollment projections are posted on the District website. The enrollment should peak during the 2009-2010 school year.
*Math and reading scores are up.
*Tax revenue for the district will be less than expected due to PTAB loss.
*The current diversity ratio for the district is 3:1.
*Explained the District’s role allocation for strategic, tactical, and operational responsibilities.
*The District installed a new spam filter to protect the students. It may block email that you send to the staff. If you do not get a response from a teacher within a couple of days, please call the office and leave a message for the teacher.

Officers’ Reports:
*September Minutes were approved.
*Tina Duve, Vice President: Still looking for volunteers to attend School Board Meetings and report back to the PTA.
Tina gave information about the speaker coming to the January PTA meeting. Dr. Maniacci will discuss raising kids to excel without sacrificing character. This will be sponsored by the PTA and everyone is welcome. The PTA meeting will be at 6pm, with the speaker beginning at 7pm. Flyers will go out.
*Marianne Fieseler gave the Treasurer’s report for October and November. Cash on hand as of 11/15/2007 is $15,547.

Old Business:
*Magazine Drive: Thank You Becky Malloy and Michelle Kmet. Profit to date is $12,000. Sale is on going, consider holiday gifts by going to QSP.com and entering Hauser School Code: 425007607.
*Freaky Friday: numbers were down this year, but all who attended enjoyed the evening.
*Flower Beds: Hauser received good publicity, front page of the Suburban Life.
*Original Works: Kathy Kunish reported things are going well, $500 profit to date with proceeds going towards the theater program.

New Business
:
*Fall Play: Dalia Lietuvninkas reported that donations will be taken at the door prior to each evening performance. There will be a cast party following the Wednesday evening performance with a gift given to both Mr. Mason and Mrs. Koncius.
*Reflections: Deadline is November 26th with two new categories – Video productions and dance choreography.
*Staff Dinner: PTA will provide teachers with dinner the night of Parent Teacher Conferences – November 19th.
*Honor Roll Breakfast: December 5th at 7:30am. Heavenly Hot Dogs will cater a hot breakfast for those students on the Honor Roll.
*Book Fair: Mary Somers reported that the book fair will take place January 24th and 25th. Books will be sold both days and the evening of the 24th, in conjunction with Family Dinner Night.
*Family Dinner Night: Val McCarthy reported that there will be a volunteer meeting the evening of the 15th to come up with a plan. Please contact Val if you are able to attend the meeting or have any ideas for possible changes to the dinner.
*District Calendar: Hauser is in charge of the calendar next year. We need someone to chair this, please contact Cathy Louthen if you are interested. The format to the calendar is already on a disk.

Meeting adjourned at 10:35am.

*Meeting ran a bit long, there was quite a bit of information to go over. Leslie Berman agreed to come early to the next PTA meeting to answer any questions that PTA members may have had and not had the opportunity to bring up at the November meeting. She will be available from 5:00 – 6:00pm on January 17th. The meeting begins at 6:00pm and the speaker will immediately follow at 7:00pm.
